SM4140 Graduation Thesis (08 - 09)

Instructions effective October 2008

Coordinator for Graduation Thesis (GT) administration: Yue Jin Ho

Weight: 3 credits

"Graduation Thesis"

1. "Graduation Thesis" is comprised of two parts: Final Year Project (FYP, 70%) and Portfolio (30%). FYP is a major project of your three-year-study at the CIL, School of Creative Media. It is a project to testify to your achievement and degree of excellence at the end of your BACM program; Portfolio is a collection of your major and significant works (including FYP) and it is used to represent what you have done in these three years. The grade of the FYP is given by adviser of each FYP project (and one CIL staff member concerning the FYP final oral presentation), and Portfolio is evaluated by an internal CIL staff.

2. Of FYP, students need to work with adviser ASAP. We expect students seeking potential advisor between September and mid November 2008, and students should confirm the project adviser before 9 December 2008 (Tuesday). We strongly advise students having ONE adviser. If you have reasons for getting two advisers, please write to Yue Jin Ho for approval.

3. The size of FYP should be a manageable one.

4. The Final Year Project is a research-based and process-oriented work.

5. We welcome students' free deployment of media. Although students need to choose FYP format from 8 categories (see below), these 8 categories are used for equipment and resources planning. Media format should not be seen as a constraints for any FYP.

The revised assessment scheme below is to communicate two principles:

(2) that the semester grade will be given by your adviser involved in each project.

- Proposal submission in semester A: 10% (DONE)
- Progress report: 10% (10 Feb)
- Mid-term presentation of final draft: 10% (Week 4 - Week 9)
- Three times advisement (semester A, weeks 5-9, weeks 11-13 final draft revision): 10%
- Finished project + research-theoretical text (30 April) + oral defense 30% (graded by supervisor & CIL faculty member)
- CIL faculties assessment of student portfolio: 30% (21 May)
