Piercing the Spectacle
"Piercing the Spectacle: A Situationist Critique of Computer Games" by Brenda Laurel
Hopefully we will be able to talk about the idea in this short essay in the tutorial on March 3.

Sorry - but Brenda Laurel knows nothing about the situationist writings. She is a sham.
Here's the work, (http://www.cddc.vt.edu/sionline/) so she can brush up before her next 'Rant'. She's an academic, after all.
Cheers,

Thanks for your comment. Yup, it looks like it was a mistake to introduce this short article. In the end I actually asked students not to waste time to read it at home. During the class we browsed through the whole article together and I think we all agreed that it was quite badly written. But I assume there is one point we can take: Debord's critique can still be very relevant to the research on and/or the use of video games. And if students eventually choose to work on video games-related projects, Benjamin's idea of 'The Author as Producer' should really be put to practice...
