Attendance: Because of the workshop-based nature of the class, attendance is VITAL. You are expected to attend all class meetings. I will, however, grant you three free absences (whether excused or unexcused) across the semester. Four absences or more will result in the loss of one full grade when final grades are tabulated. Five absences will result in a failure for the course. |
||||
| Class participation & preparation grade: Active participation and lively discussions enrich everyone's learning experience. It is important that all students use the in-class discussions to engage the assigned materials and one another. Some things that count under this grade: verbal participation (based on quality, not quantity), attentive listening, in-class free-writes, homework assignments, coming to class on time prepared to listen to lectures and participate in discussions. Active participation will work in your favor should your final grade fall on a borderline. | ||||
| Papers are to be typed (double-spaced) and submitted in the form of hard copy on time. Late assignments and papers will lose a sub-grade level for every late day (e.g. an A will be reduced to an A-, an A- to a B+, etc.). If you are late for 7 days or more, your paper will be failed. If you hand in an assignment to my mailbox, it is your responsibility to confirm that I received it on time. “You mean you didn’t get my paper? I emailed it to you but must have sent it to the wrong address” is not an acceptable reason for a late paper. | ||||
| Never Plagiarize!!!
Plagiarism is the use of other people’s work as your own without proper acknowledgement. Examples include: § Copying homework from other students. § Copying passages from web pages without proper citation. § Using extracts from books and articles without indicating where such materials come from. |
||||
| The University can impose penalties up to and including
expulsion from the University for plagiarism, so don’t put yourself in a
vulnerable position. |
