| Define
a New Site in Dreamweaver |
In Dreamweaver, the word site is used as shorthand to refer to
any of the following things:
- Website:
a set of pages on a server, to be viewed by a visitor
to the site using a web browser.
- Remote site: the files on the server that make up a website, from your (the author¡¦s) point
of view rather than a visitor¡¦s point of view.
- Local site: the files on your local disk that correspond to the files
in the remote site. You edit the files on your local disk, then upload them
to the remote site.
- A Dreamweaver site
definition:
a set of defining characteristics for a local site, plus information on how
the local site corresponds to a remote site
The
first step in building your website is Defining Your Site. There are several
Categories in the Site Definition window; we will focus our attention on the
Local Info and the Remote Info. This is key since
we will be building our website on our local computer, then publishing it on
a remote webserver.
For Dreamweaver 4 or MX:
- Select Site > New Site from either the Site
window or a blank document.

For Dreamweaver MX 2004/Dreamweaver 8:
- Select Site > Manage Sites from
either the Site window or a blank document.
- In the Manage Sites dialog box, click New, and select
Site from the pop-up menu.

The Site Definition dialog box appears. If the
dialog box is showing the Basic tab, click Advanced.
