the topic and 10 minutes Q & A session. Instructor will stop you talking if
you have already used up the time. You can have one representative to present
your topic. The group should lead the Q & A session. Your group need to write
down who responsible for which part on the last page of the PowerPoint file and
submit the hard copy of the PowerPoint file to the instructor in class as well
as a soft copy to Blackboard. Each group member should have an even share of workload,
contributing to the research, analysis and preparation of a PowerPoint file.

"New Man":

Study the responses of the following people to the "New Man" incident.
Do you think their responses were appropriate and what influences had they
brought to the incident? i. the owner of "New Man"; ii. Hong
Kong Arts Development Council; iii. Arts Critics re-examining the incident
by taking the gender issue into consideration, such as the Chinese translation
of "New Man", sexual discrimination in Hong Kong; iv. Hong Kong
artists signing a joint declaration on newspaper / participating in a demonstration
/ organizing a exhibition titled "Penis Arts Exhibition". b
. Analyze the reasons for supporting or against the showing of "New Man"
in public places. What is your point of view? c
. Analyze how the HK government officials define whether an article is obscene
or not and the regulations that are imposed on obscene articles. Do you think
this measurement is valid for art works? If not, how can these regulations
be clarified to allow freedom of art creations / expressions? 2.

Posting this poster in government venues is ok but it is not ok to be published
on the newspaper. Why? b . Analyze the reasons behind the people against
( the view point of the tax payer on the 14th of July in 1995) or support
using the original poster design. What is your point of view? c.
Study the statement that is printed on the programme catalogue of government
catalogue: "The contents of this programme do not represent the view
of the presenter." What is the use of this statement? Do you think this statement
helps to prevent arts censorship from the presenter or not? d.
Suppose you work in the Information Services Department, your boss does not like
the design of this leaflet. What will you do? 3.
Compare the redevelopment plan of Hong Kong harbour and the restoration plan of
Cheong Gye Cheon (清溪川) in Seoul: During
the process of redevelopment plan of Hong Kong harbour, Star Ferry Pier and Queen's
Pier were demolished. It caused a number of objection from the society and social
movement which asked the government to review the policy of city planning. When
compared with the restoration of Cheong Gye Cheon, there is less objection. Why?

On Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF): a.
Analyze the quoted examples of films being censored in HKIFF and the reasons
against or supporting these censorship. What is your point of view? b.
Study the criticisms of the film selection process (especially on the curator's
role in this process). Do you agree with these criticisms or not? c.
This was an issue when HKIFF was one of the government organisations, and when
the status of the HKIFF changed, this is not an issue anymore. What are the pros
& cons of cultural organisation to be owned by the government? 5.
Richard Serra "Tilted Arc ": a.
Some people wanted to move the art work away and some people wanted it to stay.
What are their reasons? b. The civic value of the empty plaza and the
artistic value of Tilted Arc, which one are more important? How to make
a balance? c. Examine the procedure of realising the project of Tilted
Arc. Are their anything that can be improved, so that the art work can stay? d.
What is Public Art? Review the policy of Public Art in Hong Kong. Is there any
regulation on the budget of public art on government buildings? What is the procedure
