(October 3, 2006)
Hamlet is currently enrolled in the Art and Technology programme, a Master's programme, at IT University of Go"teborg. His study is supported by the Guest scholarship programme by Swedish Institute. Here is a message from Hamlet:
"Whenever we see something with the word 'lab', we will link it up with experiment. However this term is used quite differently in the world of art when compared with what it means in the science sector. Having been a CIL student, I think it is important to distinguish and be aware of how we deal with this term. When we do an experiment, we do not usually start from scratch, but from some known facts or theories. We either try to prove or disprove it. That is why it is important to digest those seemingly unrelated, painful theories before we make/ create/ produce a work. Similar to a scientist, it is usually more fun to do the experiment than studying the theory behind it (don't fall asleep, I will round up...) Well, in short, do not just make something funny, it is not enough in a laboratory setting. Combine theory and practice, step by step, maybe afterward you can simply throw away those existing theoretical concepts, and make your own. Why not?
"Or if you like, first criticize CIL itself, it could be fun. Talk to Linda about it..." (6/2006)
